PROFIBUS L2 DDE Server

The Klinkmann Automation PROFIBUS L2 DDE Server is a Microsoft Windows NT application program that acts as a communication protocol Server and allows other Windows application programs access to data from SIMATIC S5-95U, S5-115U, S5-135U, S7-300 and PEP SMART I/O Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) using PROFIBUS (SINEC L2) layer 2 (FDL) protocol. Any Microsoft Windows program that is capable of acting as a DDE or FastDDE Client may use the PROFIBUS L2 Server.

FEATURES

The Server communicates with PLCs using the CP 5412 (A2) communication processor, installed in an IBM PC or compatible computer and connected to PROFIBUS bus cable via bus terminal.

Communication processor CP 5412 (A2) is configured with SINEC Setup program (this tool is part of SIEMENS DP-5412/MS-DOS,WIN V1.10 or DP-5412/Windows NT V2.01 software package). If MS Windows 3.x are used, configuration data are transferred to CP 5412 (A2) by running SINECINI.BAT batch file before starting MS Windows.

The Server allows access to data in up to 30 PLCs attached to the PROFIBUS network.

The PLC programs must be modified to support communication with the Server:

- for SIMATIC S5-95U, S5-115U, S5-135U, S7-300 PLCs, call to the Interpreter Function Block must be included in PLC program and PLC communication processor configured with corresponding configuration tool.

- for PEP SMART I/O PLC: the ISaGRAF application and configuration ISAPB2_S.TXT must be created and transferred to PLC and bus parameters for station must be set.

The Server supports multiple topics, allowing different data update rates for each controller.

The Server provides a communication status flag for each topic.

The Server supports standard DDE among multiple applications.

Supported PLC data areas depend on PLC type.

S5-95U, S5-115U PLC:
Data Blocks (rw), Flags (rw), Inputs (r), Outputs (r), Peripheral Inputs and Outputs (r), Counters (r), Timers (r), System Data Area (r), Absolute Address (r).

S5-135U PLC:
Data Blocks (rw), Extended Data Blocks (rw), Flags (rw), S Flags (rw), Inputs (r), Outputs (r), Peripheral Inputs and Outputs (r), Counters (r), Timers (r), System Data Area (r), Extended System Data Area (r), Interface Data Area (r), Extended Interface Data Area (r), Absolute Address (r).

S7-300 PLC:
Data Blocks (rw), Flags (rw), Inputs (r), Outputs (r), Peripheral Inputs and Outputs (r), Counters (r), Timers (r).

PEP SMART I/O PLC:
Boolean, Integer and Real objects (rw) are supported.

Data in Data Blocks, Extended Data Blocks, Flags, S Flags, Inputs, Outputs, Peripheral Inputs and Outputs and Absolute Address usually can be accessed as bits, bytes, words, double words and strings.

Data in Counters, Timers, System Data Area, Extended System Data Area, Interface Data Area, Extended Interface Data Area usually can be accessed as bits or words.

SPECIFICATIONS

Hardware: IBM or compatible 386/486/Pentium equipped with a minimum of 4 MB RAM (16 MB RAM for Windows NT). May require more memory to run other Windows programs simultaneously. Communication processor CP 5412 (A2) for attaching your PC to PROFIBUS. S5-95U, S5-115U, S5-135U, S7-300 or PEP SMART I/O PLCs.

Software: Microsoft Windows NT and SIEMENS DP-5412/Windows NT V2.01 software package 4.0. Tools for creation of PLC program and configuring of PLC communication processor (depending on PLC type).
