Aluminum product manufacturer Purso benefits from FactoryTalk Optix

Purso has implement Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk Optix software. The need to modernize the paint shop's control system was identified in the factory located in Siuro, Nokia. The use of FT Optix may later expand to the entire production facility.

Aluminum product manufacturer Purso Oy has quickly identified the major benefits available on Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk Optix software.

In the early 2024, the automation in the approximately 1,000-square-meter paint shop was updated, and Allen-Bradley control system by Rockwell Automation was implemented. Automation Engineer Samuli Romppainen of Purso realized that FT Optix could enhance many important production functions.

FT Optix streamlines paint shop processes

FT Optix is used for data collection into a database, but it also serves as an HMI (Human-Machine Interface).

- We no longer need to search vital production data from ten different databases, but it is now available on one platform, Romppainen explains.

Paint shop workers can now easily find, for example, the codes for the paints required for different products and the oven times, which refers to how long the treated products need to be kept in the curing oven to dry the paints.

Romppainen praises Klinkmann Automation for allowing a free trial of FT Optix.

- The license is affordable compared to competing solutions, he adds.

Usage may expand in the future

According to Samuli Romppainen, FT Optix has also been successful in replacing the paint shop's paper-based quality and tracking reports with digital ones.

The use of FT Optix may later expand to the entire production facility.

Romppainen notes that it is possible that FT Optix could be implemented in other areas at Purso, beyond just the paint shop, and that customer information and order numbers could also be integrated into the Rockwell software.

Klinkmann Automation is committed to providing technical support in the early stages of FactoryTalk Optix implementation, but so far, it has hardly been needed, Romppainen says.

Purso Oy

The Finnish family-owned company Purso is an aluminum product manufacturer founded in 1959, with a turnover of approximately 250 million euros in 2022. The entire Purso company group has around 550 employees.

Purso's products are used in industries such as manufacturing, building facades, and lighting. In 2016, Purso became the first company in Finland to start producing recycled aluminum. The company's headquarters and largest production facility are located in Siuro, Nokia.

The benefit of FactoryTalk Optix is that the data no longer needs to be searched from ten different databases, but is centralized on one platform.
