nVent HOFFMAN Cabinets for Meyer’s Luxury Cruise Ships – Protecting Automation Systems

Carefully selected enclosures were installed in the world-class cruise ships built at Meyer Turku shipyard. Klinkmann Automation, closely involved in the project, guaranteed that the best possible cabinets were installed in the ship to protect the critical automation systems.

The nVent HOFFMAN enclosures, provided by Klinkmann Automation supporting the selection of the right cabinet types, are used to protect the automation systems that control the ship’s operations. The most luxurious ships in the world are built at the Meyer Turku shipyard for Royal Caribbean Cruises and they represent a new generation that combines top-level energy efficiency, automation, entertainment, and travel comfort.

Ferries such as Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas are the best-equipped and the highest-standard passenger vessels in the world. Icon 3 is 365 meters long, 66 meters wide, and has a draft of 9 meters. It has 20 decks, a crew of 2,350, and can accommodate approximately 5,600 passengers.

The enclosure delivery includes both standard and customizable products:

nVent MAS and MAD wall enclosures

Top-Level Luxury for the Caribbean

Royal Caribbean has ordered a total of four ships from Meyer Turku, two of which are already sailing the world’s oceans. Icon 2 was delivered to its owner in July 2025, Icon 3 will be delivered in 2026, and Icon 4 in 2027. Once completed, the ships will head to the Caribbean to serve luxury-level travelers. In September 2025, Royal Caribbean confirmed the order for the cruise ship Icon 5.

Klinkmann’s co-design cabinet team was closely involved in the project, helping to select the ideal products as well as the customizing and adapting the cabinets for each installation site.

This collaboration ensured that the cabinets meet both the technical requirements and the practical installation conditions across different areas of the ship – from engine rooms to control rooms and entertainment systems.
