nVent Hoffman Cabinets for Meyer’s Luxury Cruise Ships – Protecting Vessel Automation
Enclosures manufactured by nVent HOFFMAN were installed in the world-class cruise ships built at Meyer Turku shipyard. These cabinets are used, among other things, to protect the automation systems that control the ship’s operations.

The ships built at the Meyer Turku shipyard for Royal Caribbean Cruises – such as Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas – are among the most well-equipped and highest-standard passenger vessels in the world.
The strength of nVent HOFFMAN products in cruise ships lies especially in their wide product range and extensive certifications, including those for the marine industry.
Top-Level Luxury for the Caribbean
Royal Caribbean has ordered a total of four ships from Meyer Turku, two of which are already sailing the world’s oceans. Icon 2 was delivered to its owner in July 2025, Icon 3 will be delivered in 2026, and Icon 4 in 2027. Once completed, the ships will head to the Caribbean to serve luxury-level travelers.
The exceptional nature of top-class cruise ships becomes clear when examining their dimensions. For example, Icon 3 is 365 meters long, 66 meters wide, and has a draft of 9 meters. It has 20 decks, a crew of 2,350, and can accommodate approximately 5,600 passengers.
What Are Industrial Enclosures Used for on Cruise ships?
Electrical cabinets and enclosures play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of cruise ships. They are used in passenger vessels to protect electrical and electronic equipment from saltwater splashes, temperature fluctuations, and corrosion. Additionally, the cabinets help ensure the safety of passengers and crew and reduce noise and vibration from machinery.
Enclosures are used to protect navigation and communication equipment and to keep dry and wet systems separate. Industrial enclosures must meet international maritime certifications, IP ratings, and electromagnetic compatibility standards.
